Treatment of Congenital Glaucoma

Treatment of glaucoma in children is essentially surgical, with special surgeries designed and dedicated to the infant eye.

For the treatment of congenital glaucoma, glaucoma eye drops cannot be used for any long time. Glaucoma eye drops have a weak efficacy in the treatment of congenital glaucoma in children. In addition, potential major side effects on the general health can be caused by the use of eye drops in the treamtment of congenital glaucoma. Finally, there is no sufficient long-term studies on their role in scientific literature.

Surgery dedicated to the treatment of glaucoma in children

Conventional techniques of glaucoma surgery used in adults have a very low success rate when used in children. The commonly used chemicals which augment the success of adult glaucoma surgerries are effective only for a short term in glaucoma in children. These surgeries can lead to significant side effects later on in life.

A lifetime dedicated to the treatment of children with congenital glauoma

Dr Khalil is pioneering his own modifications of the best successful technique of a children glaucoma surgery called trabeculotomy. He has been invited to present his technique of modified trabeculotomy and his management of infants with congenital glaucoma in tens of prestigious international conferences. Along the past years, he has treated over 1000 children successfully with his technique. He is following up most of these children as they grow up with healthy seeing eyes

The vast majority of children who had their congenital glaucoma at Dr Khalil eye clinic enjoy a healthy life-long good eyesight.
