An intravitreal injection is a process that delivers a specific drug directly into the eye near the retina
Intravitreal injections are done in the jelly-like substance that fills the larger part of the eye which is the vitreous cavity. Delivering drugs in this space is the best method to send the required treatment to the need part of the retina or other parts in the back of the eye.
Why do we do intravitreal injections?
Intravitreal injections are used to treat some retinal diseases that were previously intractable to treatment methods such as cases with severe Diabetic retinopathy (together with laser treatment for the retina) and ceىter of vision (macula) hemorrhage associated with aging in some people (age related macular degeneration, ARMD), as well as some cases of thrombosis of the retinal vessels.
